Record 46: How to Solve the Problem of Product Warpage and Deformation?

The production of injection molded parts can be simple that there is no special requirement. While the production processing can also be complicated that the profits of the product can differ by 10,000 yuan.
Mr. Lv of Weifang recently invited me to his factory to help him deal with a technical problem. His machine can’t manufacture the products smoothly. The technician can't adjust it well and always complains that the mold is not good. While the mold manufacturer complains that the adjustment process is not good. He feels a great headache as the boss.
In fact, his problem is nothing in the eyes of ordinary people. But if the product can’t meet the customers’ needs, that is a big deal.

I also took this opportunity to talk with Mr. Lv about the reasons for the unevenness of the product. In fact, the reason is very simple: if the injection molded product has poor surface flatness, warpage and deformation, it is generally due to uneven distribution of the internal stress of the product. In simple terms, it is caused by the different degrees of cooling of the product. To solve it, there are generally three methods as follows:
1. Check the location where the unevenness occurs
If the unevenness of the product occurs at the place where wall thickness change, or at the stiffener of the product, it is generally caused by improper setting of the pressure holding process of the injection molding machine. Because where the wall thickness is thicker, the cooling is slower, and the outer surface of the product shrinks first, while the internal melt is still flowing. If the holding pressure time is set incorrectly or the pressure is not enough, it is easy to cause internal stress concentration and cause the wall thickness change of the product. The ribs shrink and this will affect the flatness of the product.
2. Check the wall thickness of the warpage
If the deformation of the product is serious, the wall thickness of the product should be checked. This is generally caused by the mold problem. Due to the design of the mold feed wall thickness and processing defection, the wall thickness turns to be different. Different cooling times is easy to be cause due to different feeding times, which results in internal stress concentration and further causes the distortion. This problem can be solved by repairing the mold or increasing the injection speed of the machine.
3. Adjust the mold temperature
If you have adjust the product's holding pressure parameters and the injection speed parameters of the injection molding machine, the product flatness and shrinkage problems still exist, you can consider adding a mold temperature machine. Since the warpage is caused by the concentration of internal stress, that is, the cooling time of the external fluid and the internal fluid are different, we can consider increasing the mold temperature to solve the problem.
According to the above solutions, Mr. Lv’s problem was easily solved by increasing the injection molding machine’s injection speed and pressure holding time.
