Sharing Talk 17: How to Deal with the Injection Molding Processing Parameters?

Many manufacturers of the injection molding industry pay little attention to the calculation and adjustment of specific process parameters. In actual daily work, they more often do the work relying on their experiences. But for the new product development, they may be confused about the ideas of multi-stage injection, stress, viscosity, shear force, etc. When they turn to Internet or book for help, they will still feel confused. Recently, our technicians also propose this question. Thus, I will share with you my idea about injection molding process parameters.
1. Define The Concept
First of all, we must make two questions clear. What is injection molding process parameter? Why is the injection molding process important?
There are few clear books or textbooks in injection molding industry that point out the ways and methods of adjusting the injection molding process parameter, and the principle is mostly vague.
In fact, the purpose of the injection molding process parameter is very clear. By adjusting the injection rate, clamping tonnage and other parameters, the product quality can be improved to a great extent and the cycle time can be shortened as much as possible. The products quality includes drape edge, shot pattern, color, mechanical properties, etc. In other words, if the product quality has been met to the maximum extent, there is no need to adjust the injection process parameters.         
2. Adjust In Time
On the premise of defining the concept, the specific process parameters adjustment need to be changed in time according to the different materials, product wall thickness, product quality requirements and cycle time.
The following injection lighter shell is taken as an example. Due to the need to store inflammable and explosive objects inside, the specific requirements are as follows: the thickness of the thickest part is about 2mm, and the thinnest part is about 0.7mm. It is required that no shot lines and shrinkage appear on the thick part of the lighter surface, and no perforation on the thinnest part. What’s more, the machine is with cold runner.

When we get the sample, we should determine the position of the thickest part and the thinnest position at the first, and then get the weight of the runner. Generally, there should be three or four section of injection for this product. Generally, the nozzle flow channel is the first section, the product filling is the second section, and the third section is when the product feeding is almost completed. The specific setting should be observed and adjusted for many for times.
The above is the general adjustment method of injection molding machine parameters. The adjustment can be completed within only one shot. If there are other requirements for the quality of the products, you can add a little bit of packing strength. Moreover, the cycle time can be shortened to 11s by using this method, which is 6s shorter than that of peers, and the weight of single piece will be reduced from 5.7g to 5.2g, which greatly improves the profit margin.
