The picture below shows a degradable lunch box. From the appearance, there is no big difference from the general plastic food containers. However, if you get it in your hand, you can clearly feel the difference. Due to the different materials, the flexibility of the degradable food containers is stronger than that of the general plastic ones, and a sweet plant flavor be sensed, which is totally different from the generally plastics. The degradable food containers can be ignited with a lighter, and there is no obvious peculiar smell after being ignited, and the color of the cross section appears white after burning. However, the general disposable PP food containers, when burning, releases a lot of unpleasant plastic burnt smell, and appears black at the section. (This is also the reason why ordinary disposable plastic food containers can¡¯t be processed by the combustion method.)
2. Material of degradable lunch box Currently, there are generally two types of degradable materials commonly used in the injection molding industry: PHA and PLA. PLA (polylactic acid) has better performance after processing due to its high processing temperature range, and is commonly used in degradable plastic food containers. Degradable materials such as PHA and modified PHB are generally used in other products that require degradability. At present, the common processing techniques of degradable products are usually injection molding and compression molding. Among them, the precision of the molded product is poor, and the thickness is thick, which is difficult to replace the general injection molded product. What¡¯s more, the processing temperature range of degradable materials for injection molding is relatively low, and the physical properties of the products are difficult to meet the requirements of general injection molded parts.
3. The current degradation method of degradable food containers PLA (polylactic acid) degradable disposable food containers are generally degraded in a compostable way. Generally, the decomposing rate of products exported to Europe can exceed 98% after composting. In the storage process, although generally a compostable environment will not be reached, as time goes by (usually around 6 months), the degradable food containers will become significantly brittle and soft. Thus, the storage and sales cycle is also of much importance.
